Back in the day, in 1982 my dad tried out for the Texas Rangers MLB, he was that good, but wasn’t good enough and unfortunately, he didn’t make the team. My mom was disappointed that he didn’t try out the next year but by then, life had happened - me (evil laughter). However, the saying is true, baseball is life, until his retirement a few years ago, my dad was an owner & coach of a traveling baseball team and has helped hundreds of young men get baseball scholarships, minor league invites & try outs, and future coaching positions to the players he’s coached throughout the years, not to mention also having the Richmond & Atlanta Braves as one of your clients (so many perks growing up). Anyway, he always told his team, and us kids that “your game is only as good as your practice.”
That saying goes further than a game of baseball or football, it goes into your auditions for Broadway, your prep for Tedx Talks, and even into our careers as publicists. That practice is investing into your craft; whether its signing up for those 1on1’s with editors, taking that masterclass with the Forbes Journalist, or in my case, I booked a Pitch Perfect Party with Award Winning Journalist & Editor, Jill Schildhouse; subscribe to her Substack here.
Pitch Perfect was just what I needed. Jill reviewed my working pitches with me and the honest insight, feedback, and constructive criticism from her was extremely helpful, at one point she said “if this was pitched to me, I’d delete it” - hey the truth hurts, but again, its what I needed to hear and I am glad that I invested in bettering my pitch, my craft; because there’s always room for improvement. Always.
If you’re interested in booking a session with Jill, I highly recommend it. Simply email JillSchildhouse@gmail.com; use subject line: Pitch Perfecting Party.
